Local Installation possible?
« on: May 19, 2010, 08:41:51 »
Hi,

is it possible to run berta locally on Mac OS X? It comes with an Apache server, but so far I had no luck in activating the Php GD library which seems to be crucial to berta.

Any insights? I would love to test out my berta site locally on my system.

Regards,
liv

hey liv!

i must say that's a very weird php installation without the GD library. gd usually is precompiled. are u using any bundled server solution?

for osx i'm personally using MAMP (http://www.mamp.info). the free version supports only one website, but it nevertheless has everything inside you might need.

Hey,

hah, weird, that's what I thought!
Mac OS X Leopard (10.5) has an Apache server & PHP preinstalled. It can be activated via Web sharing in the system preferences (found this out when I tested the stacey CMS which apparently doesn't need the GD library).

I guess the Apple people had a weird day when they implemented this because they didn't include the GD library...

I'll just use MAMP then.

Thanks!

did you rename your htaccess to .htaccess? if you did, rename it back and try to run the site without it. if you install berta in a subfolder you have to modify the contents of .htaccess according to the instructions found inside that file.

i actually set the apache dir to the berta folder, so it is the root dir, just like on the web server, didn't work.
re-naming/disabling the htaccess rules didn't work either, it just shows a blank page.
so frustrating, but i don't think i missed something...
